The site Loskaai lies in the outskirt of Ghent, a neighbourhood with little excitement or action. The theatre is therefore seen as a cultural sponge, a space that has plenty common space, allowing various events to take place inside as well as outside. The tower leaves a small footprint with minimal structural components on the ground floor and also creates a point of recogintion in the skyline. To accommodate all different functions without them conflicting, two staircases are introduced: one easily accessible from the more public functions (foyer, theater and public rooftop terrace), the other passes the more private functions (the café, the backstage and the house with rooftop terrace for the janitor). In this way the stairwell has its own theatrical atmosphere as a place to see and be seen.
